River Expeditions in Northern Canada

ADVENTURE

River expeditions (rafting, hiking, camping, wildlife viewing) on northern Canada’s most iconic rivers, including Nahanni, Alsek, Tatshenshini, Firth, and more. Friendly, knowledgeable guides, great food, and the best gear.

Nahanni National Park is one of the most spectacular Parks, perhaps in the world. The South Nahanni River is one of North America’s finest wild streams and rushes 322km through the park. At Virginia Falls, the river cascades down to form this continent’s most spectacular undeveloped waterfall, twice the height of Niagara Falls.

Immediately downriver from the falls are 8km of nearly continuous rapids and standing waves created as the river flows through Fourth Canyon. There are strikingly different landscapes throughout the Park. Four great canyons, up to 1,200m deep, line the river. At Rabbitkettle Hotsprings, warm (20°C) water radiates outward to form an intricately terraced mound of tufa rock, more than 27m high. A mountain landscape embraces the canyons.

Numerous rapids, several hot springs, and unlimited hiking opportunities are among the other highlights of the river. The valley is dominated by geological features so unique that Nahanni National Park was declared the first World Heritage Site by the United Nations.

A River Experience is truly the “Trip of a Life Time.” Your trip is designed with much thought to capitalize on the most scenic and exciting parts of the river while making time on other sections. Your guides will adjust the schedule to make the best use of the river and weather conditions.
